RCA cable: Nothing but an electrical cable
An RCA cable, which is sometimes called cinch plug or lotus plug, is a kind of electrical cable, which is commonly used in the audio and video market. The RCA cable is named after the ‘Radio Corporation of America’, which used it in the 1940s first in order to connect phonographs to amplifiers.
Generally RCA cable refers to a wire with three color-coded plugs, which connect to three correspondingly colored jacks, which are also called ‘phono plugs’ and ‘phono jacks’. These colors are normally red and white for right and left audio channels while yellow for composite video. Composite video is ether analog, or non-digital, and it carries all the video data in just one signal. As the analog video is made up of three separate signals to start with, squeezing them into one signal reduces the quality.
The RCA cable can be used to connect a variety of audio and video devices, ranging from the camcorders to TVs, from stereos to speakers. Higher-end camcorders may have all three RCA jacks, and the camcorder can go through three separate channels: one video, two audio, which results in a higher-quality transfer. Lower-end camcorders usually have one jack, which is called a stereo jack, and which combines all three channels. This results in a lower-quality transfer because the signal is compressed into one channel. But in either situation, RCA cable transmits analog or non-digital signals and because of this, they can not be plugged directly into a computer or other digital devices.
